Happy Mother’s Day to Mother Nature the feminine force of creation. She provides the food to feed your body and the beauty to feed your soul. Take time today to honor her essence and give thanks.

A simple way to do this is to create a blessing bundle called a despacho in Peru.
This is a beautiful tradition to thank and honor the Earth Mother, whom they call Pachamama. A despacho gives the energy of appreciation to uplift Mother Earth. You use some type of biodegradable wrapping and fill it with a variety of natural ingredients: sweet treats, cornmeal, tea, coca leaves, flowers, and the like. Say a prayer, give a blessing, or offer gratitude with each item you place in the bundle.

The important thing is the love and appreciation you infuse as you are creating the bundle. Give thanks for Mother Nature provides. Then tie up the bundle and bury or burn it as an expression of deep appreciation.

Beltane is the cross-quarter Wheel of the Year point following Spring Equinox. Also known as May Day, it marks the starting point of the turn toward summer. The flowers are in full bloom, and the days are definitely longer.

Beltane is the starting point for the growing summer season. The Solar Fire and the Earth Goddess unite now and bring forth new plants to feed the multitudes. This union of Earth and Fire is essential for the growth of crops, so it is honored with feasting and ceremony. The dance of the May Pole, for instance, represents and celebrates the powerful union of the masculine and feminine principles.

Each of us carries internally the two basic principles of masculine and feminine within our consciousness, and at this time of year you can find value in noticing how they are working together. Those two principles must join within you for any creation to come to fruition. Honor how they both work, and notice what they want to fertilize with their combined energy.

Bask in the beauty of this point of the seasonal cycle. Enjoy being outside, and give thanks to the marriage of Earth and Solar Fire, which bring us these gifts. Connect to the flowers and fairy folk in this window.

• Ceremonially dress in bright colors and patterns and honor the abundant beauty of the season.
• Energize your money or wealth by giving it attention. Create a financial plan. Start tracking all your income.
• Feel the fullness of gratitude for all you have and the abundance of Mother Earth.

Refresh your physical world by spring-cleaning your house, freshening your garden, and fluffing your wardrobe and physical appearance.

Ever since 9/11 we’ve collectively experienced fear as an undercurrent in our lives. In the last few years, with the economic challenges worldwide the volume of the collective fear has been turned up even higher. Since we are all connected through sharing the element of Air, we all feel it. How we handle it and what we do with it is a different matter.

Many people don’t recognize this fear because it has been such a pervasive and chronic condition of their lives. When fear is instilled in childhood through parenting practices, an overly strict school environment, or religious training, it often forms an emotional core that goes unexamined and unreleased throughout adulthood. Over the years, more fear is simply layered on top with no realization of the accumulation.

In the spiritual community, the motto is often “don’t think about or feel fear” and it won’t impact you. If fear is an undercurrent that has been pervasive in your experience, its influence runs so deep in your feeling core that it’s not as easy as “don’t think it or feel it”.

Fear is hardwired into the body as means of protection: it is an automatic response when the body is threatened. In order to make other choices, you have to recognize what fear feels like when it springs up inside to defend you from a perceived threat. Then you are able to direct your energy in another direction.

In order to release chronic fear, you need to do some conscious clearing work around it. However, I’ve seen people get stuck in the cycle of clearing, never feeling quite clean enough (another form of fear). They don’t progress to the stage of actively and intentionally directing the forces of creation. This is like the person who continues to feel dirty after they’ve had a shower. They spend all their time continuing to try and feel clean, when they need to be focused on going out and creating in the world.

There are multiple ways fear can impact you in each of the elemental realms, and here are just some of them.

On the Earth physical level you are likely to experience a wave of fear when you encounter a mama bear and her cubs in the wild, a flood that covers the roof of the house at the end of your cul de sac, someone breaking into your home, or being physically attacked in some way. You might also be impacted by very day to day physical concerns such as wearing the right outfit to an important event, or more dire ones of not having enough food or a place to sleep.

Collectively we experience fear at the physical level with environmental threats such as the gulf oil spill, an earthquake such as the one that hit Hati, or a tsunami that wipes out an area as in Japan. Physical fear also comes from being near attacks such as 9/11 or bombing or warfare or someone with a rifle opening fire on a group. These bring immediate physical fear that can take us to safety but also keep us awake at night long after the experience.  

Fear occurs on the Water emotional realm when you are awash in so much self-doubt it prevents you from taking action. Feelings of fear may be impacting you if you are having trouble making decisions, you are steeped in worry, you can’t focus on generating and creating solutions to the problems you face.

In the emotional realm you can also have fear of shame, guilt, or humiliation blocking you from trying something new or going for your dreams. It’s easy to be drowning in fear without even knowing it.

On the Air mental level, fear is often blasted over the airwaves through both words and pictures. It might come from the radio, the television, a political leader, an economist, a teacher, or the pulpit. Hearing treats of economic collapse can move you immediately into a financial survival mode, taking you right out of an income generating creative mindset. You might be afraid that what you say or believe can get you ostracized or even possibly killed.

When you hear words that are intended to invoke fear, you need to know how to handle them. Do you absorb them and allow them to impact your emotions, or can you recognize the blast and make a conscious choice about how you want to deal with them?

Fire is provoked when you experience fears of life becoming out of control. Being in an accident, being overpowered in some way (such as being beaten, enslaved, tortured, abused, raped, or the eternal damnation of burning in hell for all eternity) are fears which can inflame the Fire element.

Depending on your cultural background, you might have cellular fear of being burned at the stake, driven from your land, and more. Any of these can bring low-grade unnamed fear. I once had a client whose mother escaped capture during the war: for years, the daughter experienced a fear she could never put her finger on until we cleared the fear passed down from her mother during a creation coaching session.

Spiritually, you might have low-grade fear of intolerance or persecution for your beliefs and the way you connect or don’t connect to the Divine. In the words of singer/songwriter Holly Near, you might not be afraid of someone else’s God but for “what people do in the name of their God”. For many years those who honored nature, upheld science, or believed in the Divine Feminine were considered heretics and the punishment was often death.

The best action you can take to deal with the way fear may be impacting your life is to simply begin noticing it. Pay attention to your responses to situations. Are there ways fear is or has been used to control you?

Also notice if you are using the two most common fears – lack of time and money – to prevent yourself from going for your dreams.

In my upcoming program “29 Days to Ignite Deep Grace: Transforming Fear through the Power of Love” we will be exploring ways you can refocus your energy on creation when you find yourself in a wave of fear. You’ll be activating the inner quality of deep grace as a navigational tool to guide your life in times of stress or turmoil, and to assist you in bringing your desires into being.
