Dance

Dance provides one of the primary tools we use at Natural Rhythms™ for setting intention, gaining insight, activating awareness, and developing consciousness.

Lisa Michaels’ extensive background in dance provides the foundation for this portion of our program. Lisa’s background was developed through teaching structured for over 20 years; in private studios, public schools, and numerous other settings. For 7 years she co-owned and directed a ballet school that grew to over 500 pupils in just 3 years. During those years, Lisa began developing, what she called at the time, expressive dance. After leaving the school to facilitate in additional areas, she continued to expand her use of free-form dance to increase consciousness. More of Lisa’s dance background can be found in the introduction chapter of her book Natural Rhythms™. Lisa is currently the Vice President of the Sacred Dance Guild.

Both structured dance and free-form dance will develop aspects of your consciousness.

Structured dance develops consciousness from the outside in. Dancers see and hear the dance instruction and apply it to their bodies, creating the appropriate dance shapes and form, and they move their bodies in time to music. This increases the dancer’s physical coordination, patterned thinking capacity, and grace.

Expressive free form dancing works in the opposite direction – from the outside in. It connects to the wellspring of creativity in the inner landscape of the dancer and then brings that ability to the outer world, thus increasing the capacity for creative problem solving, innovation, and personal expression.

This video came from a group of workshop participants in Cincinnati who had done free-form movement in Lisa’s workshops for several years. They requested some structured dance lessons and this dance evolved from that experience. This is their first public appearance.
